One of my favourite Riads! It is tucked away in a quiet street in the medina. The layout of the property is a bit like a maze, rooms of different sizes are interlinked on separate levels through corridors and stairs that may take a little time to discover. One of the rooms has a sunken L-shaped bathtub.

There are only 17 rooms in this property, the decor in each room is different. Spread over two levels, some rooms are larger than the others. Unless there is a good reason, otherwise one would rather relax here than to go out and meet the chaos of Marrakech.

Large window on the first floor of Dar Drissi in Fez allows one to enjoy the full view of the courtyard and fountain below. Many of these iron work patterns add to some dramatic visual pleasure of a room.

Riad

Riad is the traditional Moroccan house that has no windows or balconies facing the streets, normally with two or more storeys around an Andalusian-style courtyard that contained a fountain. Riads were the stately city homes of the wealthiest citizens such as merchants and courtiers. The word riad comes from the Arabian term for garden. It's also often used in Marrakech for houses that have been renovated and open up as boutique hotels or B&B. The traditional construction is a typical Islamic architecture designed to maximise family privacy from the outside world, and also to protect it from the weather and all the incoming desert sand.
